Dear K17 friends,
We are delighted to share that Sergey Malov is coming to perform for us on March 7, and we’ll be welcoming you into a new residence for this evening of music and connection.
Sergey Malov is a truly singular artist — known for moving effortlessly between violin, viola, baroque violin, and the rare cello da spalla. At this concert, you’ll hear him on violin and cello da spalla.
The cello da spalla is a small, shoulder-played cello once favored in Bach’s time — warm, intimate, and almost never heard live today. Experiencing Bach on this instrument feels like stepping back in to the sound of the 18th century, and it really is something very special to witness.
Sergey is internationally recognized for his genre-defying musicianship and deep historical curiosity. He appears regularly at major festivals and halls across Europe and beyond, and is admired for bringing early music traditions into vivid, modern life — whether through virtuosic Paganini or thoughtfully reimagined Bach.
For this performance, he will be joined by our own Evgeny Tonkha on cello and Steven Vanhauwaert on piano.
The program features works by:
Johann Sebastian Bach
Niccolò Paganini
Franz Schubert
We are very much looking forward to this special evening — not only for the music, but for what always grows around it - familiar faces, stimulating conversations over a glass of wine, and that quiet feeling of community that forms when we gather this way.
We’re excited to see you at a new residence for K17 and to welcome Sergey for what promises to be a beautiful and memorable evening.
