K17 PRESENTS: “LET’S TALK...” | SCHUBERT, SIROTA AND DRUBICH

  • 235 14th Street Santa Monica, CA, 90402 United States (map)

Dear friends,

Why is Haydn’s Symphony No. 45 called the “Farewell” Symphony? And how did the famous “da-da-da-DUM” of Beethoven’s Fifth become associated with fate knocking at the door?

Let’s talk about the stories, hidden meanings, and symbols that composers wove into their music—and the unexpected sources of inspiration behind some of the greatest masterpieces.

K17 is delighted to introduce “Let’s Talk…”, our new series bringing together live music and the stories behind it.

On November 8, we return to our Santa Monica residence to explore symbolism in music, from Schubert’s world to the imaginations of composers working today.

In the first half of our concert, Kristi Brown-Montesano will guide us through the fascinating world of Schubert, revealing the stories and symbolism behind his music, including why his famous string quartet is called Death and the Maiden.

The second half offers something truly special: the composers themselves! Jonah Sirota and Anna Drubichwill share their creative processes, talk about what inspires them, and reveal how their musical ideas come to life.

Join us for wine, light bites, and an evening of music, discovery, and good company.
